On Wednesday, the Supercoppa Italiana pits Italian champions AC Milan against Coppa Italia winners Inter Milan in a Milan derby unlike any other.

The two Calcio titans take a brief break from Serie A duty to face off in the 234th Derby della Madonnina, with the Nerazzurri having won 85 and the Rossoneri 79, but this is only their second Supercoppa meeting.

AC Milan are currently second in Serie A and have been quite impressive thus far this season. The Rossoneri were held to a 2-2 draw by Lecce in their previous game and will need to step up this week.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, is currently fourth in the league table and has not been at their best this season. Last week, the Nerazzurri defeated Hellas Verona 1-0 and will look to replicate that result in this match.

Set to contest only the third final between the two Milanese heavyweights – after the Coppa Italia of 1977 and the Supercoppa 12 years ago – Inter are seeking their first such victory.

After defeating Juventus in the Coppa last spring with a 4-2 extra-time victory in Rome, the Nerazzurri will now look to win consecutive super-cups for the first time since 2006 – with Juve also their opponents in last January’s showpiece at San Siro.
