Antony Omitted from Brazil Squad Amid Abuse Allegations

Brazilian and Man United winger Antony has been excluded from the national squad following disturbing allegations of abuse by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin.

This development has cast a shadow over the young Manchester United player’s career as authorities on two continents delve into the matter.

The Brazilian Football Federation made the announcement, citing the need for a thorough investigation after the allegations against the 23-year-old winger were publicly revealed. Brazilian news outlet UOL first published the claims, which have triggered investigations by law enforcement agencies in both Sao Paulo and Greater Manchester.

Antony swiftly denied the accusations, asserting his innocence through social media. He expressed confidence that ongoing police investigations would vindicate him, categorically labelling the allegations as false.

The alleged incident took place on January 15th in a Manchester hotel room, where Cavallin claims Antony attacked her with a headbutt, causing a head injury that necessitated medical attention. Additionally, she alleged being punched in the chest, which resulted in damage to a silicone breast implant, requiring corrective surgery.

Antony, in a statement, admitted to a tumultuous relationship with Cavallin but vehemently denied any physical aggression.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) acknowledged the allegations and confirmed that their inquiries were ongoing. Meanwhile, Manchester United declined to comment on the matter when approached by BBC Sport.

This incident follows closely on the heels of the Mason Greenwood case, where the Premier League club initiated a mutual agreement for the forward to depart after a six-month internal investigation. Charges against Greenwood, including rape and assault, were dropped in February, and he recently joined Spanish side Getafe on loan.

In Antony’s absence, Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has been called up to replace him in the Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru. As the investigations unfold, Antony’s career hangs in the balance, with the hope that the truth will ultimately prevail.
