Tottenham vs AC Milan Preview & Prediction

Match preview

With Antonio Conte back in charge, Tottenham Hotspur will host AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 match on Wednesday night in an effort to erase a one-goal deficit.

An early Brahim Diaz goal earned a 1-0 win for the Rossoneri in the first leg three weeks ago, but both clubs face the midweek reunion on the back of poor domestic defeats.

Conte’s brief return to the bench couldn’t have gone worse for the Italian, whose team was humiliated 4-1 by Leicester City before Diaz’s goal in the seventh minute gave Milan a slim lead in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 match on February 14.

Spurs, who are currently fourth in the standings but are on the verge of being eliminated from the last 16 for the third time in their past four appearances in the top flight of European football, have advanced from two of their last three continental matches despite losing the first leg.

Further encouraging is their three-game winning streak at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they have kept Manchester City, Chelsea, and West Ham United from scoring. Milan also doesn’t exactly enter the second leg with an air of unrestrained confidence.

Milan is barely 90 minutes away from making it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time since the 2011–12 season after weathering a Tottenham storm thanks to Diaz’s swift response, but Stefano Pioli has yet to restore the Rossoneri to their former grandeur.

Milan won its second of four straight games across all competitions with the victory over Tottenham. They also kept clean sheets in victories in the Serie A over Torino, Monza, and Atalanta BC in February. But, a weekend trip to Artemio Franchi to play Fiorentina ended in defeat.

Spurs will undoubtedly have an advantage due to their familiar surroundings, but Conte will have a difficult time motivating his wasteful team following two demoralising domestic losses. Hence we go with the following pickings in this fixture:

  • UNDER 2.5 @ 1.88
  • DRAW @ 3.65
  • CORRECT SC0RE 1-1 @ 6.90
