It’s time for another mega football event for football fans, as Real Madrid takes on Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup tomorrow, Wednesday at Finland’s Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
The UEFA Super Cup is a one-off annually contested match played between the winners of Europe’s two main club competitions, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
Barcelona and Milan have had the most success in this competition, with both teams winning five titles. Chelsea are currently the UEFA Super Cup champions, defeating Villarreal on penalties 6-5 in 2021 after a 1-1 full time draw.
After an incredible season, Real Madrid will look to add another feather to their cap with a UEFA Super Cup victory under Carlo Ancelloti’s management who became the first coach to win four UEFA Champions League titles. He also set a record for leading his team to five European Cup finals.
Real Madrid who will be making their eighth appearance in the Super Cup final will also be gunning for their fifth win.
While Eintracht Frankfurt will be competing in the UEFA Super Cup final for the first time in their football history becoming the fifth German Club to do so. After winning their second Europa League title with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Rangers in the final.
Eintracht will face a formidable challenge from Real Madrid but they won’t be an easy pushover for their opponent.
Bayern Munich is the only German club to have won the Super Cup twice, in 2013 and 2020. Will Oliver Glasner’s men become the second German team to win the UEFA Super Cup? Only time will tell.
