Leeds vs Chelsea match preview & betting prediction

Match preview

Leeds United welcome Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday evening, Jesse Marsch’s side is in the relegation zone after consecutive losses to Man City and Arsenal.

The Whites were defeated 2-1 by Arsenal following a disastrous first half, while Thomas Tuchel’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Leeds dropped into the relegation zone as Everton, who still have a game in hand, beat Leicester City.

Leeds’ next games will be against an in-form Brighton & Hove Albion and an improving Brentford team. They are condemned to pick up points where they can, starting with Chelseas, else they are relegated to the Championship.

Doing so would require Leeds to be solid at the back. However, Leeds have gone 10 games without a clean sheet at Elland Road since thrashing Crystal Palace in November.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has been drawn into danger after picking up only eight points from their last possible 21 points, and are only one point ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal.

The Blues need four points to secure their spot in the Champions League for next season, hence the game against Leeds is a must-win ahead of their FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday.

Leeds vs Chelsea team news

Leeds right-back Luke Ayling has been given a three-game ban for the red card he picked up against Arsenal and as such will miss the rest of the season, which is not ideal with Stuart Dallas out for the foreseeable future with a fractured leg.

Tyler Roberts, Adam Forshaw, and Cresencio Summerville are also out for the Whites, although Marsch is hoping that Patrick Bamford will return to training next week and play before the season ends.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been plagued by a number of injury issues of late, with Jorginho and N’Golo Kante facing delayed fitness tests, although the duo will not play if they are not fully fit before the FA Cup final.

Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi will continue to keep the two midfielders company in the treatment room, while Marcos Alonso who was substituted at halftime against Wolves after reportedly getting into an argument with Tuchel in the dressing room might miss out.

Leeds vs Chelsea prediction

Leeds’ defensive problems have worsened, and had Arsenal been able to find a merciless edge at the Emirates, the Whites might have returned home having conceded four or five goals.

Tuchel will demand a solid performance before the trip to Wembley, and his team should respond positively, increasing the hosts’ relegation fears.
