With the group stages of Women’s Euro 2022 concluded, England will face Spain in the first quarter-final on Sunday at the Amex Stadium.
England won all three games to finish first in their group, while Spain finished second after winning two of their three games in the group stage.
England is still in contention to win their first major tournament after cruising through the group stage and advancing to the knockout rounds.
A 1-0 win over Austria in the tournament opener was followed by a historic 8-0 win over Norway, with England breaking their own record for the most victories at the UEFA Women’s European Championships.
While England breezed through the group stage, Spain had to work hard to advance to the quarter-finals. La Roja started the tournament with a 4-1 win over Finland, but a 2-0 loss to Germany on matchday two ensured that they would have to settle for a point in their final group game against Denmark.
Spain will be hoping to reach the semi-finals of the European Championships for the first time after being eliminated in the quarter-finals in the previous two editions.
