Nigeria withdraws from international basketball competitions

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved Nigeria’s withdrawal from all international basketball competition.

Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Akin who was represented by Secretary of State Ismaila Abbakar announced on Thursday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

“After the endless crisis that has plagued and almost paralyzed the development of basketball in Nigeria, President Buhari has approved Nigeria to withdraw from all international basketball tournaments for two years,”

“This will also allow for the setting up of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the management and development of the domestic basketball leagues in Nigeria”

Abbakar stated that this development would allow the government to focus on efforts to revitalise the sport.
