Nigeria Flying Eagles qualify for U-20 AFCON

Nigeria`s Flying Eagles defeated Côte d’Ivoire 2:1 in the semifinals of the current WAFU U-20  Championship in Niamey to book their place in the 2023 African Cup of Nations U-20 competition.

Ladan Bosso’s boys made it into the finals of the tournament after an explosive encounter with the Ivorian team at the Stade General Seyni Kountché last night.

Daniel Daga fired a heading shot for Nigeria just five minutes into the match to put Nigeria ahead.

However, with minutes left, Côte d’Ivoire equalised with a well drilled training routine free kick at the edge of Nigeria’s box 18.

The seven-time African champions went full-on attack afterwards in the danger zone of their opponent but to avail as the match ended at 1:1 in regulation time.

In the 111th minute of extra time, striker Ibrahim Yahaya scored from the penalty spot to give Nigeria a 2:1 lead which was enough for team Nigeria to win the match and book a ticket to the Africa U20 Cup of Nations to be held in Egypt next year.

The Nigerian team will face the Republic of Benin in the final this Saturday.
